The Sacred Cauldron.

The Sacred Cauldron is probably more important than even the Chalices, this Oracle of the Goddess dates back to the times when as a village community shared in everything. The men would go to hunt, and the womenfolk would collect the roots and vegetables from the bush. All would be placed in a communal pot and all shared in the feasting and success of the hunt.

Later men did not have to hunt as the women folk tamed the wild beasts, and harvested them when the season told them too. So really what you think I am saying is that it is nothing more that a large stewing pot. And I suppose that is what it is. But that is on the lesser level, you see everything in the Craft has two purposes that of the physical and that which is symbolic of the spiritual or the invisible within the visible.

The cauldron, if we go back to Celtic Folklore, was the Majikal Cauldron of the Goddess Cerridwen and represented renewal of life. It was symbolic of the womb and what ever was placed within it, magnified by Her blessing came forth and gave us what Majik we required. The old myth is that it contains three drops of inspiration, wisdom and truth. When we traditionally drink from it we are supposed to take three sips, one for each of inspiration, wisdom and truth.

If our hearts and souls are true these gifts would be granted to us, but if our hearts were false, then you would be cursed.

The Cauldron is better known under the title. 'The Cauldron of Immortality', because it not only represents the womb, but also the tomb. This is the main symbol in our faith that reveals the mystery that we humble Witches believe in not only Immortality, but more so in reincarnation. That we are a spiritual being experiencing a physical existence and not the other way around.

If you are a serious student of the Arts of Witchcraft then you must have a Cauldron, this is for mixing all your potions and herbal spells in. But if you are a true student of Witchcraft then study Herbalism, as this field will be of great importance in all your Majikal operations.

Cauldrons can be purchased at most good occult or Pagan shops but they vary in price usually from about $200 upwards, for a genuine one anyway, if you just wish to use a camper oven, these can be brought from any Army Surplus Store for a fraction of the price, and do the same thing. It is what you do when you infuse your mind with it that either makes it a stewing pot or a Cauldron.©
